Corrections Policy

Civil Engineering Science and Technology (CEST) is committed to preserving the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of the scholarly record. When errors are identified in published articles, the journal will take appropriate corrective action to ensure that readers have access to accurate and trustworthy scientific information. Corrections are intended to address unintentional errors that do not invalidate the overall scientific findings or conclusions of the published work.

Types of Corrections

CEST may publish one of the following forms of correction, depending on the nature and severity of the identified issue.

Erratum

An Erratum is issued to correct errors introduced during the editorial, copyediting, typesetting, or production process. Examples include:

  • Typographical errors affecting interpretation.
  • Formatting mistakes.
  • Incorrect author affiliations introduced during production.
  • Figure or table formatting errors.
  • Metadata or DOI-related errors.

Corrigendum

A Corrigendum is published when authors identify errors originating from the submitted manuscript after publication. Examples include:

  • Incorrect numerical values that do not alter the study conclusions.
  • Errors in figure labels or captions.
  • Incorrect acknowledgements.
  • Minor inaccuracies in methods or references.

Request a Correction

Requests for correction may be submitted by:

  • Authors;
  • Readers;
  • Reviewers;
  • Editors; or
  • The Publisher.

All requests should clearly describe the error and, where applicable, provide supporting documentation. The editorial office will assess whether the proposed correction is appropriate and determine the most suitable course of action.

Editorial Assessment

Each correction request is evaluated by the editorial team to determine:

  • The nature and significance of the error;
  • Whether the scientific conclusions remain valid;
  • Whether additional expert consultation is required; and
  • Whether a correction, retraction, or other editorial action is more appropriate.

Where necessary, the Editor-in-Chief may consult the original reviewers or independent subject experts before making a decision.

Publication of Corrections

Approved corrections will be published as a separate citable document and electronically linked to the original article. The original article will remain part of the permanent scholarly record unless retraction is required. Where appropriate, the online version of the article may include a notice indicating that a correction has been issued.

Corrections That Do Not Require Republication

The following issues may generally be corrected without affecting the validity of the published research:

  • Author affiliation updates.
  • Contact information.
  • Minor typographical errors.
  • Reference formatting.
  • Metadata inaccuracies.
  • Minor production errors.

Such corrections do not alter the scientific content or conclusions of the article. 

Corrections Requiring Further Editorial Action

If an identified error substantially affects the reliability, interpretation, or validity of the published findings, the editorial office may initiate additional procedures under the journal's Retraction Policy or Research Misconduct Policy.

Examples include:

  • Significant methodological errors.
  • Major analytical mistakes.
  • Invalid datasets.
  • Ethical concerns affecting the reliability of the research.

Author Responsibility

Authors are encouraged to notify the editorial office immediately upon discovering any error in their published work. Prompt reporting allows the journal to preserve the integrity of the scientific record while minimizing the potential impact of inaccurate information.

Editorial Transparency

All corrections issued by CEST are made transparently and permanently linked to the original publication. The journal maintains a complete record of post-publication updates to ensure that readers can distinguish between the original publication and any subsequent amendments.

Policy Compliance

By submitting a manuscript to CEST, authors acknowledge their responsibility to report significant errors discovered after publication and to cooperate with the editorial office in implementing appropriate corrections when necessary.
