Post-Publication Discussion Policy

Civil Engineering Science and Technology (CEST) recognizes that scholarly communication continues beyond publication. Scientific findings may be further discussed, questioned, clarified, or expanded as new evidence, perspectives, or methodologies emerge.  The journal supports responsible and constructive post-publication discussion as part of the ongoing advancement of civil engineering research while maintaining the integrity, professionalism, and transparency of the scholarly record.

Purpose

The purpose of post-publication discussion is to:

  • Encourage constructive scientific dialogue.
  • Improve the accuracy and interpretation of published research.
  • Promote transparency and academic accountability.
  • Support continuous advancement of knowledge in civil engineering.
  • Strengthen confidence in the published scholarly record.

Post-publication discussion is intended to facilitate scientific exchange rather than personal criticism or disputes.

Scope of Discussion

Post-publication discussions may include, but are not limited to:

  • Requests for clarification of published findings.
  • Scientific comments on methodology or analysis.
  • Discussion of research interpretation.
  • Identification of potential errors.
  • Suggestions for future research.
  • Replication or validation of published studies.
  • Constructive scholarly opinions supported by evidence.

Comments should remain objective, respectful, and supported by scientific reasoning whenever possible. 

Editorial Assessment

The Editorial Office may evaluate post-publication comments to determine whether further editorial action is necessary. Where appropriate, the journal may:

  • Request clarification from the authors.
  • Invite a formal response from the corresponding author.
  • Publish a correction or editorial notice.
  • Initiate further ethical assessment.
  • Refer the matter to the journal's Corrections Policy, Retraction Policy, or Research Misconduct Policy, when applicable.

Editorial decisions will be based on the available evidence and the significance of the issues raised.

Author Response

Where a post-publication discussion raises substantive scientific or ethical concerns, the corresponding author may be invited to provide a formal response. Authors are encouraged to respond professionally, objectively, and with appropriate supporting evidence. The journal may publish author responses where doing so contributes to scientific transparency and benefits readers.

Standards of Conduct

All participants in post-publication discussions are expected to maintain professional and respectful communication. The journal will not consider comments that:

  • Contain abusive, defamatory, or offensive language.
  • Include unsupported allegations.
  • Violate confidentiality.
  • Promote personal attacks.
  • Contain discriminatory or inappropriate content.
  • Are unrelated to the scientific content of the published article.

The Editorial Office reserves the right to decline or remove inappropriate communications. 

Editorial Independence

Participation in post-publication discussion does not influence editorial decisions regarding future manuscript submissions. All comments and editorial actions are evaluated independently and objectively in accordance with the journal's editorial policies and ethical standards.

By publishing or commenting on research in CEST, authors and readers acknowledge that scientific discussion is an essential component of scholarly communication and agree to participate in a respectful, evidence-based, and ethical manner. The journal remains committed to maintaining an open and transparent scholarly environment while safeguarding the integrity of the published literature.
