Funding Statement Policy

Civil Engineering Science and Technology (CEST) is committed to promoting transparency in research funding and ensuring that all sources of financial support are properly disclosed. Clear disclosure of funding information helps readers evaluate potential influences on the research and supports the integrity of the scholarly record. CEST requires all authors to disclose the financial support received for the research, manuscript preparation, or publication of their work.

Funding Statement Requirement

All submitted manuscripts must include a Funding Statement that clearly identifies any financial support received during the research and publication process.

Authors should disclose:

  • The full name of the funding organization(s);
  • Grant, contract, or project number(s), where applicable;
  • The recipient(s) of the funding;
  • Any institutional or governmental financial support.

Funding information should be included in the manuscript before the References section or in another designated section specified by the journal template.

No Funding

If the research did not receive any external or internal financial support, authors should explicitly state this.

Example:

Funding Statement: This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.

Multiple Funding Sources

Where research is supported by more than one funding agency, all funding sources should be disclosed.

Example:

Funding Statement: This research was supported by the Ministry of Higher Education under Grant No. XXXX and Universitas Sains dan Teknologi Komputer under Internal Research Grant No. YYYY.

Role of the Funding Organization

Authors should disclose whether the funding organization had any involvement in:

  • Research design;
  • Data collection;
  • Data analysis;
  • Interpretation of findings;
  • Manuscript preparation;
  • Editorial decisions;
  • The decision to submit the manuscript for publication.

If the funding organization had no involvement, authors should clearly state this.

Example:

The funding organization had no role in the study design, data collection, data analysis, interpretation of the results, manuscript preparation, or the decision to submit the article for publication.

Transparency and Independence

Receipt of financial support does not influence editorial decisions. All manuscripts submitted to CEST are evaluated solely on the basis of:

  • Scientific merit;
  • Originality;
  • Methodological rigor;
  • Ethical compliance;
  • Relevance to the journal's aims and scope.

Editors and reviewers evaluate manuscripts independently, regardless of the source of research funding.

Relationship with Conflict of Interest

Disclosure of research funding does not necessarily indicate a conflict of interest. However, authors should ensure that all financial relationships are reported consistently in both the Funding Statement and the Conflict of Interest Statement whenever applicable. The editorial office may request clarification if inconsistencies are identified between these declarations.

Editorial Assessment

The editorial office reviews all submitted Funding Statements during the editorial assessment process. Where necessary, authors may be requested to provide additional information or clarification regarding the source, scope, or role of financial support. Failure to disclose funding information may delay the editorial process or require post-publication correction if undisclosed funding is identified after publication.

Funding Transparency After Publication

Funding information forms part of the permanent scholarly record and will be published together with the article. If funding information changes or an omission is identified after publication, CEST may publish a correction in accordance with its Corrections Policy.
